Learn more about Our Fluid Services:
Cooling system failure is the most common mechanical failure and the results can range from inconvenient to extremely expensive. No, we’re not talking about the air conditioning in your vehicle. We’re talking about the system that cools your engine and keeps it at the proper operating temperature. Coolant is a mix of water and antifreeze that circulates through the engine to draw off heat. Engine damage from overheating can be very expensive to fix so it’s important to maintain your cooling system properly with scheduled coolant replacement and periodic inspections of the cooling system. Certainly stop by Advanced Auto Clinic if you suspect a leak and have us take a look. Learn more.
Neglect your transmission for too long, and it can fail. You really don’t want to pay for a major transmission repair. It’s important to have enough transmission fluid. If it runs low, the transmission will run hotter and won’t have the protection it needs to cope with the added stress of towing. Transmission fluid breaks down and gets dirty over time. Whether you have an automatic or manual transmission, you need to have it serviced on schedule to make sure it runs efficiently. An automatic transmission contains a maze of passages through which the fluid has to pass to keep it shifting smoothly. If you neglect transmission service, the passages can get clogged up and you start to have problems. Learn More.
The power brake system helps you provide braking power so that you don’t have to do all the work with your brake pedal. The brakes themselves are applied at the wheel using hydraulic pressure. When we step on the brake pedal, we create pressure in the power booster that’s multiplied by vacuum from the engine. The resulting pressure pushes brake fluid through the master cylinder into tubes and hoses that run to the brake at each wheel.
If you notice any decrease in stopping power or if your pedal seems mushy, you could have a problem! Obviously you’d want to make sure your brake fluid is filled to the recommended level. Learn More.
When you take a corner in your car, the outside wheels have a slightly longer distance to go than the inside wheels. That means that the outside wheels have to turn a bit faster than the inside. The piece of mechanical wizardry that makes this possible is called the differential. Our service technician can check your differential fluid level and top it off if necessary. With low fluid, the differential will run too hot and wear prematurely. Ask your service adviser at Advanced Auto Clinic when it’s recommended to change your differential fluid. Fresh fluid will extend the life of your differential. Learn More.
If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, the transfer case makes sure you have power available for both the front and rear axles. Transfer case parts will eventually wear out and you’ll have to make repairs. But properly servicing your transfer case will keep that day as far in the future as possible. Some transfer cases are lubricated with gear oil and others use automatic transmission fluid. Of course, it’s important to use the right fluid for your vehicle and we can help you do it right. When you need four-wheel drive you really need it. With proper transfer case care we can make sure it’s available. Learn More.
For most of us, it is hard to remember life without power steering – cranking those great big steering wheels? It was a pretty good workout. Now power steering is standard. The heart of any power steering system is its pump. The pump pressurizes the power steering fluid that provides assist for steering. Most pumps are driven by a belt that is run by the engine – a few are electrically powered. Many manufacturers specify power steering service intervals. Unfortunately, this important service is sometimes left off the maintenance schedule. So, when in doubt, every 25,000 miles or 2 years is a good fallback. Learn more.
Where there are a surprising number of small, inexpensive parts that can lead to expensive engine damage when they fail…Fortunately, a lot of those little parts can be taken care of in routine maintenance. They may not be easy to remember, because it is a long list, but we can help you know what’s scheduled to be taken care of. Some of us really don’t look forward to going in for an oil change and then getting a list of the other things the manufacturer recommends. However, automotive maintenance is all about prevention – addressing small problems before they get big. Learn more.
